About her
I am affectionate, kind, generous, loyal, funny and absurdly honest. My fridge is clean but disorganised. My house is tidy and filled with flowers but my garden takes precedence. I am never happier than when family or friends are staying.
I love swimming in the sea and bodyboarding! Walking and gardening make me happy. I can’t quite give up the thought of riding or skiing again. I play kitchen bridge but sadly am useless at tennis and a non-starter at golf. Opera and reading are musts as is travel to Europe.
When I retired as a CEO of a small charity three years ago, I did so because I wanted to start afresh. I had recently divorced after 35 years (sadly), had moved to a new village and wanted to have more time to support those I love best. I now have an intermittent casual job as a Tour Manager with a Cultural Tour company. I have also created a new garden, become a Trustee of a Youth charity and joined the editorial committee of our village magazine. If I am honest, the only reason I sometimes find the future daunting is not because I am unenthusiastic about learning and doing new things but because I don’t have someone to laugh with or to look after. Of course, being cherished would be good, too.

I want you to be the first person I tell about the best, the funniest and perhaps the worst thing that has happened to me that day. I hope you can be the other half of “We” so that I no longer have to say “I”. I don’t think I mind what form that takes as long as it involves sharing lives, albeit including children, grandchildren, friends of many years and new experiences.
Who might enjoy life with me? Someone who is easy in his own skin, intelligent, calm, wry, has integrity and has led a life that I can respect. You will probably not be entirely conventional! A firm belief in the importance of family and longstanding friendships and a zest for life, might ensure that we are like-minded. I hope so.
Hopefully you enjoy walking in rural areas, socialising with old and new friends, having family to stay (for a short time!), talking about books, going to opera and plays (even on screen) and exhibitions. Gardening is one of my passions but it doesn’t need to be yours!
I love London and have lived there but wouldn’t want to live there all the time.
